New Year's resolution marketing for apps
Published 27 October 2026 · Updated 27 October 2026 · By An Nayal
When should an app start its New Year's resolution campaign?
Start in the first week of December. Fresh accounts need one to two weeks of testing before a format breaks out, so an app that starts on January 1 spends its biggest week warming up. Agniverse Media runs this for consumer apps from $10,000 a month, with the system that took Flamme to 53M organic views.
- November: pick angles, cast creators, set up accounts
- First half of December: test hooks, kill most of them
- December 18 to the first week of January: ad prices dip, reuse winners as paid
- January 1 to mid-January: post daily on the winners
- Late January and February: retention content for the users about to quit
Our own data: December was Flamme's biggest month
Flamme, our own couples app, got 19.8M organic views in December 2025. That is 37% of its 53M total across seven months, and 65% more than November. The accounts had been testing since July, so when the holidays came the winning hooks were already known and every creator posted on them.
The New Year calendar for apps (2027)
The dates that move installs between November and February, and what to post on each.
| Date | Moment | What to post |
|---|---|---|
| Nov 2 - Nov 27 | Planning window | Angles, creator casting, account setup |
| Dec 1 - Dec 14 | Hook testing | 3-5 formats per creator, keep the top 20% |
| Dec 18 - Jan 7 | Paid "Q5" dip | Run the winners as Spark and Partnership ads. Gupta Media found Meta CPMs about 20% cheaper in the second-to-last week of the year |
| Dec 26 - Feb 14 | Dating peak season (Match) | Dating and social apps post daily |
| Fri Jan 1 | New Year's Day | "Day 1" content, the commitment post |
| Sun Jan 3 | Dating Sunday | Dating apps' busiest day of the year (Hinge, Match, Tinder) |
| All of January | Dry January | Quit-drinking and sober apps |
| Mid-January | Quitter's Day | Strava's name for the day resolutions most often lapse. "Still going on day 12" content |
| February | The drop | Retention content, streaks, "what I kept" |
Which apps peak in January
Any app that sells a fresh start. These eight categories get the most out of resolution season.
| Category | Why January | A hook that fits |
|---|---|---|
| Fitness and workout | Gym and fitness resolutions | "Day 1 vs day 30" |
| Diet and nutrition | Eating-better resolutions | "What I eat in a day, week 2" |
| Quit habits | Dry January, quit-smoking and vaping goals | "I quit on Jan 1, here's day 12" |
| Meditation, mental health, sleep | "Less stress" resolutions | "I tried 10 minutes a day for a week" |
| Language learning | "Learn a language" resolutions | "Learning Spanish before my March trip" |
| Personal finance | No-spend January, savings goals | "No-spend January, week 1 total" |
| Dating | Dating Sunday, the Dec 26 - Feb 14 peak | "My Dating Sunday experiment" |
| Habit, productivity, reading | Fresh-start goals | "The one habit I kept from last year" |
The playbook, week by week
Pick the angle, not the product
On Flamme, problem-first hooks beat product-first hooks by about 90x per video. In January the problem is the resolution itself, so lead with it.
Cast creators who are the user
A creator who is actually starting the resolution beats a polished one. Pick by ICP, not follower count.
Start the accounts in early December
One to two weeks of testing comes before a format breaks out. Fresh accounts that start on January 1 test during the peak.
Test many, kill fast
3-5 formats per creator in the first two weeks. Kill the bottom, mutate the middle, scale the top.
Reuse winners as paid in the Q5 dip
December 18 to the first week of January is the cheap window, after the holiday rush.
Post daily through mid-January
This is the peak. No new tests, only the winners and their variations.
Switch to retention before Quitter's Day
The users you won in week one start to drop in week two. Streaks, "still going", "what I'd tell myself on Jan 1".
Hooks that work in resolution season
- "Day 1 vs day 30" series, one creator, same frame
- "I quit [X] on January 1, here's day [N]"
- "The resolution I actually kept last year"
- "What I'd tell myself on January 1"
- "It's Quitter's Day and I'm still going"
- "No-spend January, week 1 total"
- "My Dating Sunday experiment"
