GEO cost · 2026 AI search pricing guide

How much does GEO cost?

How much GEO costs depends on who does the work. Generative engine optimization, the job of getting named in ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google's AI answers, can be a free afternoon of checks or a $20,000-a-month retainer. Most agencies do not publish a price. These are the ones that publish it, plus the tool plans and what doing it yourself takes.

Last updated October 2026 · Published by Agniverse GEO

Published by Agniverse GEO, the AI search lab at Agniverse for app makers. We sell GEO work too. Our pricing is not public (we take clients by application), so we left ourselves out of every table here. Agency prices appear only where the agency publishes them on its own site, and tool prices come from each vendor's pricing page as of October 2026.

Short answer

GEO costs anywhere from nothing to more than $20,000 a month. Doing it yourself costs time, plus an optional tracker at about $29 to $999 a month on published plans. Among agencies that publish prices, ASOitis charges $499 to $999 a month for indie iOS apps, Netpeak US runs an app program at $3,100 and then $3,475 a month, Omniscient Digital starts at $10,000 a month, and NoGood says its average retainer is above $20,000 a month.

What the market benchmarks say

Two agencies publish GEO price ranges for the wider market. Read them as benchmarks, not quotes. Both firms sell GEO themselves.

First Page Sage (a market survey)

These tiers are not First Page Sage's own price list. The firm says they reflect pricing it has seen among the small number of companies formally offering GEO.

  • Tier 1$2,000 to $3,000/mo
  • Tier 2$4,000 to $7,000/mo
  • Tier 3$8,000 to $12,000/mo

The tiers step up with off-site work. Tier 1 buys low-cost placements on ranking sites; Tier 3 adds three to five superlative list articles a month plus authority placements.

WebFX (published ranges)

WebFX puts agency GEO at $1,500 to $50,000+ a month and DIY tools at $10 to $1,000+ a month. Its page was last updated May 26, 2026.

  • Small business$1,500 to $5,000/mo
  • Medium business$5,000 to $25,000+/mo
  • Enterprise$25,000 to $50,000+/mo
  • One-off project$5,000 to $50,000
  • Hourly consultant$50 to $300/hr

WebFX's ranges are wide because they span small businesses to enterprises. For an app, the small and medium rows are the useful ones.

What GEO costs if you do it yourself

Most of the work that gets an app named in AI answers costs time, not money. These are the free parts.

Let the AI search crawlers in

Check that robots.txt allows OAI-SearchBot (ChatGPT search) and PerplexityBot. OpenAI says sites that block OAI-SearchBot will not be shown in ChatGPT search answers.

Free, about 10 minutes

Read Google's own report

Google points site owners to a Generative AI performance report in Search Console to see how their pages do in AI features on Google Search.

Free

Test your buyer prompts by hand

Ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Claude the questions your buyers ask, a few times each, and write down who gets named. Answers vary run to run, so one try tells you little.

Free tiers + an hour or two

Fix your own pages

Say plainly what the app is and who it is for, answer buyer questions on the page, and back claims with sources, quotes and numbers. Those three additions did best in the original GEO research paper.

Your time, or a writer

Get onto the pages engines cite

ChatGPT search and Google's AI features build answers from search results, so the comparison lists and review sites that rank for your category get read. Getting onto them is outreach. Pitch the editors and earn real reviews. Google says to skip inauthentic mentions.

Your time

What changes the price of GEO

Measuring vs doing the work

A tracker tells you where you stand, and tools start around $29 a month. Agencies charge for the fixes. Netpeak US's published plan shows where the money goes: $1,300 a month in link building links, a $500 link building fee, $175 of copywriting and a $1,500 agency fee.

How many prompts and engines you track

Tool tiers scale on prompts. Otterly.AI goes from 15 prompts on Lite to 400 on Premium. Peec AI goes from 50 to 350, and each extra AI model is an add-on. Tracking more questions on more engines costs more.

Off-site placements

Getting mentioned on third-party pages is the expensive part. First Page Sage's market tiers rise mainly with off-site work, from buying low-cost list placements at the bottom to writing three to five list articles a month at the top.

Company size and scope

WebFX prices small-business GEO at $1,500 to $5,000 a month and enterprise at $25,000 to $50,000+. More markets, more products and more pages mean more work.

Full-service vs a single channel

Some agencies sell AI search inside a wider growth retainer. NoGood's retainers come with a dedicated squad and average above $20,000 a month. A GEO-only program like Netpeak US's costs a fraction of that.

Platform scope

A narrow scope is cheaper. ASOitis works only on indie iOS apps and starts at $499 a month. An agency covering iOS, Android, web and several countries prices for all of it.

Three worked examples

An indie app doing it yourself

You built the app, you have no marketing budget, and you want to know if ChatGPT names you at all.

  • robots.txt check and prompt tests by hand$0
  • Free one-time grader (HubSpot)$0
  • Optional tracker (Otterly.AI Lite)$29/mo

Total: $0 to $29 a month, plus a few hours of your own time.

Start free. Pay for a tracker only once you are changing things and want to see if they moved.

A funded app buying a set program

You want someone else to run it for a quarter and you want the price fixed up front.

  • Netpeak US, month 1$3,100
  • Netpeak US, month 2$3,475
  • Netpeak US, month 3$3,475

Total: $10,050 for the three-month program, at Netpeak US's published prices.

The only app-specific agency program we found with a full published price. Netpeak notes the month-one agency fee is temporarily higher, so check the page before you budget.

A year of a full-service retainer

You want an agency team running AI search, content and more as one ongoing channel.

  • Omniscient Digital, 12 months from $10,000$120,000+
  • NoGood, 12 months at an average above $20,000$240,000+

Total: From about $120,000 a year, and past $240,000 at the top of the market.

Both firms publish these figures for full-service work, and neither one is app-specific. That spend only makes sense once AI answers already drive real installs or revenue for you.

Frequently asked questions

How much does GEO cost?
GEO costs anywhere from nothing to more than $20,000 a month. Doing it yourself costs time, plus an optional AI visibility tool at about $29 to $999 a month on published plans. Agencies that publish prices range from ASOitis at $499 to $999 a month for indie iOS apps, to Netpeak US at $3,100 and then $3,475 a month for its app program, to Omniscient Digital from $10,000 a month. NoGood says its average retainer is above $20,000 a month.
How much does a GEO agency cost per month?
Among agencies that publish a price on their own site, monthly fees run from $499 (ASOitis, indie iOS apps) through $3,475 (Netpeak US's app program) and $10,000 (Omniscient Digital's starting point) to an average above $20,000 (NoGood). First Page Sage's survey of the market puts GEO tiers at $2,000 to $12,000 a month. WebFX puts small-business GEO at $1,500 to $5,000 a month.
How much do AI visibility tools cost?
Published plans start free (HubSpot's one-time AI Search Grader, AthenaHQ's free plan) and run to about $999 a month (Goodie Pro). Common entry plans are Otterly.AI Lite at $29 a month, Rankscale from $20 a month billed yearly, Peec AI Starter at $96 (EUR 85) a month and Goodie Core at $399 a month. Profound publishes no paid price, only a free trial and custom Enterprise plans. Prices are as of October 2026.
Can I do GEO myself for free?
Mostly, yes. Allow OAI-SearchBot and PerplexityBot in robots.txt, check Google Search Console's Generative AI performance report, ask the AI engines your buyer questions a few times each, and fix your own pages so they state what the app is and answer real questions with sources and numbers. The paid parts are a tracker, if you want one, and the time it takes to get listed on the comparison and review pages engines cite.
Is GEO a separate budget from SEO?
On Google, no. Google's own guide says optimizing for generative AI search is optimizing for the search experience, and thus still SEO. ChatGPT and Perplexity use their own search crawlers, so a few checks are specific to them, but most of the work (crawlable pages, clear answers, being on the pages that rank) overlaps with SEO you may already pay for.
What does a GEO retainer actually pay for?
Mostly off-site work and content. Netpeak US's published app plan splits a $3,475 month into a $1,500 agency fee, $1,300 of link building links, a $500 link building fee and $175 of copywriting. First Page Sage describes the top market tier as three to five list articles a month plus authority placements. Neither breakdown lists tracking as its own cost.
What does Agniverse GEO cost?
Our pricing is not public. Agniverse GEO takes app makers by application and scopes the work after looking at the app, so we did not put ourselves in any table on this page. If you want a published price, ASOitis and Netpeak US are the two app-focused options that list one.
