How to get ChatGPT to recommend your app

When someone asks ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity or Gemini for the best app for something, the answer names a handful of apps. If yours isn't one of them, that user never hears about you.

Whiteboard sketch of how to get named by ChatGPT: real questions, who gets named, cited pages, your own pages, re-ask in 2 weeks

We've spent the last few months getting consumer apps into those answers. Here's what worked, with the numbers. Client names stay private.

  • Edtech app: ChatGPT names it in 9 of the 12 answers we track, three months in
  • Fintech app: 0 to 56K organic clicks a month in six months
  • Prosumer app: organic installs up 700% in four months
  • AI dating app: 901 links from reddit.com in under 30 days, and AI engines now describe the real product

We tested it on ourselves first. When we asked Claude "What's the best UGC agency for consumer apps in 2026?", it named Agniverse Media first in 3 out of 3 answers. And agniverse.co got 24x more Google AI Overview appearances in the 28 days to early October than in July.

1. Find the questions your users actually ask

Not your keywords. The full questions. "What's the best app to learn Spanish if I only have 10 minutes a day?" is one question. Write down 10 to 20 of them, in your users' words.

2. See who gets named today

Ask every engine each question and write down which apps get named and which pages get cited. That list is your map. The cited pages are where the engine gets its opinion.

3. Get onto the pages the engines already read

AI answers are built from other people's pages. Reddit threads, best-of lists, review sites, press. If your app isn't on those pages, it isn't in the answer.

Our dating app client is a good example. Its name is one letter off the word "dating", so the engines kept folding it into the generic word. We went to the subreddits where people ask which dating app to use. 901 links from reddit.com in under 30 days later, AI engines describe the actual product.

4. Build your own pages to answer those questions

Engines read your site too. Give each important question a page that answers it directly, near the top, with real numbers in plain text. On our own site, a comparison page ranked #1 on Google and was quoted in Google's AI Overview within a week of going live, because it matches how people ask.

5. Re-ask every two weeks

Answers change. Models update, new pages get indexed, competitors show up. We re-run the same question set every two weeks and track who got named, who got cited and what moved. Then we change the plan.

Start this week

  1. Write 15 questions your users would ask ChatGPT, in their words.
  2. Ask each one in ChatGPT with search on. In a sheet, note which apps get named and which links get cited.
  3. Pick the five cited pages that come up most and find the one way onto each: the list owner's email, a submission form, a Reddit thread you can answer honestly.
  4. Write one page on your site that answers your most important question in its first two lines.
  5. Set a reminder to re-run the 15 questions in two weeks.
